UCF Problem -Urgent!

Hi all,

I am facing an UCF error problem when i try to import any document into the application (webtop 5.3). One workaround is delete the documentum/UCF folder from the client user, but I need a definitive solution.

When I try to import the document, I got the error:

invokeMethod() failed while calling: onReturnFromProgress
Operation failed : com.documentum.ucf.common.transport.TransportExcep tion: The client failed to reconnect to the server within 250 seconds. The execute() call cannot complete. : Operation failed : com.documentum.ucf.common.transport.TransportExcep tion: The client failed to reconnect to the server within 250 seconds. The execute() call cannot complete.
com.documentum.ucf.common.transport.TransportExcep tion: The client failed to reconnect to the server within 250 seconds. The execute() call cannot complete.

I noted that there is one file “ucf.installs.config.xml” in the path Documentum\ucf\config that contains the tag < java version…..classpath= >

In the machines which don´t work , this tag contains 5 jars : ExJNIAPIGateway.jar , jacob.jar , ucf-ca-office-auto.jar , ucf-client-api.jar , ucf-client-impl.jar.

In the machines which work , this tag contains only 2 jars : ucf-client-api.jar , ucf-client-impl.jar.

So deleting this 3 jars, the import is done with success.

Could anybody help me??? It is urgent!!!!!!

Thanks a lot and best regards,
Danillo Pavan

Do you operate in a multi server environment, where the client might have access to 6.x repository in addition to 5.3 repository you are referring to? If so, there might be a version conflict.

Hi Johny, thanks a lot for your reply!!!

Well we have applications in 5.3 and in 6.5 documentum version but they are not in the same server. The client access both applications. Do you thinks this the reason to the problem?

It is strange because..if you delete the UCF folder works normally , where documentum creates automatically the xml file with only the 2 jars. But after some actions using the webtop, the others 3 jars are included into the xml file. After this inclusion the import action failures. When the progress bar screen appears, it freezes in 0%.

Thanks a lot.
Best regards,

Yes. I have seen this problem with some clients. Our workaround (which didnt require deleting the folder) it to tell users to use different browser for 5.3 than 6.5 one.

Hi Johnny.

Thanks again for your reply.

In this case did you have problems with the same jars? It is so strange, because when we delete the 3 jars, the import works.

I will be testing in others browsers.

Thanks again.

Danillo

I dont remember exactly, but I think we were able to have two browsers download the UCF to two different locations.

Hi Johnny..

I see...But do you think it is possible if only change the browser, the import action not change the files of "documentum/ucf"folder? Because now if we fix the files, after some importation actions(maybe due to use other documentum version) the xml files will be updated incluiding the 3 jars again.

If we use other browser do you think this XML will not be updated? Or using other browser another documentum/ucf folder will be created? ..Resume: my question is..what is the difference using other browser?

Thanks a lot.

I believe the difference in the other browser was that we could separate UCF download -> browser1 used for 5.3 and browser2 used for 6.x and each browser would NOT overwrite each other.

Hello Johny,

I tried to use each documentum version in different browsers as you told me. Version 5.3 in Firefox and 6.5 in Internet Explorer.

Firstly, I was able to import in Firefox, then I was able to import in 6.5 however when I try to import again in Firefox I got the same problem. The progress bar freezes in 0%.
And I think it overwrote the UCF folder. Looks like there is no difference using differents browsers.

Do you have any suggestion?

Thanks a lot and best regards,

Danillo Pavan

You have to look at the browser configuration on how/where to configure the UCF download. Some one on my team actually did this, so I dont know the details.

Hi Johnny,

Thanks again

Well I tried to find out where I can configure the UCF in browsers but I didn´t find.

Is it possible to you ask for your team where I can configure those information?

Thanks and regards,
Danillo Pavan

That project was a few years ago. Try looking in the WDK Reference Manual about config settings for UCF.

Hi Johnny,

I tried to find out any configuration in the browsers about the ucf download, but without success.

But I have one question, I compared the "ucf.installer.config.xml" file that is located in wdk/contentXfer of the 2 versions(5.3 and 6.5) and both have the same < ucfHome > e < ucfInstallsHome > tags value , that define the location in the user local machine. Do you think that will correct the case if I change the attributes keeping different paths? I mean, if I set different paths in the XML file of each version , each version will have own path??

Thanks and regards,
Danillo Pavan

Like I said in my previous post, I wasnt the person who actually fixed this. Try it and see if it works.
